“Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
(II Corinthians 2:11 NKJV)

“If you tell someone to beware of a person or thing, you are warning them that the person or thing may harm them.” From the time of Jesus to His early disciples, I want us to consider some of the persons or things He warned His disciples to be on guard against or be cautious of.

• Have this in your mind that Jesus never instructed His disciples to be afraid or careful of people or things but to beware of them, because He gave them power to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19 NKJV
> We are to be on guard and vigilant but not timid, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7 NKJV

• The Persons Or Things To Beware Of:

1. False Prophets
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”
Matthew 7:15 NKJV
> False prophets are the same with false apostles and false christs. They use the name of Jesus to deceive people into seeing them as great men of God and follow them as their subjects.

• Many people love the false prophets because of the signs and wonders they perform using Jesus name; Jesus says that “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Matthew 7:22-23 NKJV
> They are deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ; For they brings people into bondage of the law, they devours people of their wealth, they takes from people their hard earned money, they exalts themselves over others as their spiritual Father, they strikes people on the face as their subjects/slaves – II Corinthians 11:13, 20.

2. Religious Teachers
“…Beware of the leaven[teaching] of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.”
Luke 12:1 NKJV

• The teaching of the religious leaders is hypocrisy because they are based on the tradition and commandments of men. They misinterpret the commandments of God to suit their tradition and belief.
> They teach the brethren to live partially according to the law of Moses and the Ten Commandments, if they want to be/stay saved – Acts 15:1.
+ To them one need both the righteousness of the law and the righteousness of faith to live a holy life.
+ They teach the brethren to pay monetary tithes like the Israelites paid the real tithes under the law.
+ They teach the brethren to mind earthly things in the name that they are serving a rich God; so they and their followers want to inherit the world and gain their soul, which is contrary to the Lord’s teaching – Matt 6:24; 16:26. Lk 12:15.
+ They teach many strange things contrary to the scriptures and gospel truth, which draws the crowd to them and enriches their pocket.
+ Their teaching is centered on the wisdom of men and not on the power of God and the cross of Christ.

3. Covetousness
“…beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
Luke 12:15 NKJV

• Many today have embraced covetousness as a right way to live my today because of the spread of the prosperity preaching.
+ They now call greed prosperity.
+ They want to inherit the world and the kingdom of God at the same time.
+ They love money and wants to be rich by all means in the name of supporting the work of the kingdom, as if God lacks the means of performing His word on earth.
> Jesus had all the power to gain material possessions but He never went after them but warned people and said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

4. Dogs
“Beware of dogs…”
(Phil 3:2)

Dogs are those who are against holiness. Jesus says, “Do not give what is holy to the dogs…lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”
Matthew 7:6 NKJV

• They return and seduce people back to their vomit in living immoral life and worldly ways; “Yes, they are {{{greedy dogs Which never have enough}}}. And they are shepherds Who cannot understand; They all look to their own way, Every one for his own gain, From his own territory.”
Isaiah 56:11 NKJV
> These dogs cannot bark against falsehood because they themselves have left the platform of the truth. To such Peter said, “it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment[Matt 17:5. Jn 13:34-35] delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” II Peter 2:21-22 NKJV

5. Evil Workers
“…beware of evil workers…”
(Phil 3:2)

• Evil workers are like deceitful workers but what made them different is that they carry out evil plot against the faith; “Do not take me away with the wicked And with the workers of iniquity, Who speak peace to their neighbors, But evil is in their hearts.”
Psalms 28:3 NKJV
> They appear so spiritual and holy but in their hearts they plan and execute evil against anyone that is not in support of their belief, religion or practice.

6. Mutilation
“…beware of the mutilation!”
(Philippians 3:2 NKJV)

• Mutilators are law mongers using the law to confuse, seduce and hurt the simple believers. To mutilate is “to injure severely or disfigure, especially by cutting off tissue or body parts.”
> Some people with their false teaching of the law are causing a lot of injury to the those who believe them. Following their teaching cuts one off from Christ; “You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.”
Galatians 5:4 NKJV

• They use the Old Testament to draw followers. Yes they are the blind leading the blind; “Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.””
Matthew 15:12-14 NKJV
> Their mind is blinded to see the glory of law of Liberty we have in Christ; “But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
II Corinthians 3:14-18 NKJV

+ We have total freedom in Christ even freedom from the law with its works and condemnation – Rom 7:6; 8:1-4,14-17. All the persons and things mentioned comes to rob us of our liberty and reward in Christ. But as Paul said to the brethren, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Galatians 5:1 NLT
“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Colossians 2:8-10 NLT

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power…so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.”
2 Corinthians 2:11. Ephesians 6:10 NLT
